So . . . What’s Next?
by Therese Heckenkamp
I don’t like to talk about my next projects too much; at this point they still seem so fragile. Once they’re preserved on paper, it’s a different story (pardon the pun). I do have a rough draft of another suspense novel, this one about a teen whose brother disappears -- kidnapped, or did he run away? -- and she treks into the chill north woods to find him. Winter lends harshness to the atmosphere, as does a stingy, tyrant Grandfather.
I’m also deep into another suspense novel, and have countless notes for other books -- historical, contemporary, fantasy . . . . Obviously, I’ve found my calling. I better live to be 200 if I hope to get them all written!
I love writing for young kids, too. In fact, my first sale was to Hopscotch for Girls, a magazine I read growing up -- making the acceptance extra special for me -- an article about Anna Pavlova (a ballerina) that will be published in the August 2004 issue.
I have a completed middle grade novel, Project Graveyard, that I’m currently seeking a publisher for, as well as numerous picture books, and even a cookbook.
Seems I have a taste for all types of writing!
